Broken Crayon is a church-led seminar created to inspire and uplift women, reminding them that even in a broken world, they carry value, purpose, and the power to create something beautiful. I initially joined the group to support friends but soon took on the role of lead presentation designer, shaping the visual storytelling for the event.

No fluff, just facts!

The real deal is...I understand the time it would take to transform each case study from my creative journey. But great work takes time, and I'm committed to crafting a final product that's engaging, user-centered, and visually seamless.

Overview

Broken Crayon is a women’s mental health seminar group for women of color, created to uplift and empower participants by reminding them that—even in a broken world—they still have value, purpose, and beauty. As the lead PowerPoint presentation designer, I developed a culturally resonant slide deck that combined clear messaging with thoughtful visual storytelling.

Through custom graphics, inclusive imagery, and a warm, empowering color palette, I transformed complex themes of healing and resilience into accessible, engaging visuals. The presentation elevated audience connection, supported speakers in sharing powerful stories, and reinforced the seminar’s mission of uplifting women of color through mental health awareness and creative empowerment.

My Role

I began as a participant supporting friends, but my skills quickly positioned me as the lead PowerPoint presentation designer for the group.

  • Lead PowerPoint Presentation Designer

  • Transformed seminar content into visual storytelling

  • Supported speakers, participants, and audience engagement

The Challenge

The seminar addressed sensitive topics around healing, self-worth, and resilience. However, the existing presentation lacked the visual clarity and emotional resonance needed to fully support women on their mental health journeys. Without strong, thoughtful design, the message risked being overwhelming instead of empowering.

Design Rationale

PowerPoint design was essential for creating a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment for women of color at the mental health seminar. I transformed spoken messages into visual storytelling, using thoughtful layouts and culturally resonant graphics to foster empathy, reduce stigma, and ensure every participant felt seen. The design reinforced the seminar’s theme of finding beauty in brokenness while guiding the audience toward hope and resilience.

Design Solution

To bring the seminar’s vision to life, I developed a culturally resonant PowerPoint presentation that combined clarity, warmth, and emotional impact. I created custom graphics and illustrations reflecting resilience, growth, and community, while applying a color palette and typography that balanced readability with empowerment. The slide layouts were carefully structured with visual pacing and gentle transitions, ensuring participants could engage with sensitive topics without feeling overwhelmed. This approach transformed complex content into an accessible, visually engaging experience that reinforced the seminar’s message and supported both speakers and audience throughout the session.

Flow Chart Diagram

The flow chart organized the seminar’s narrative into a clear, logical, and visually engaging sequence, guiding the audience through complex mental health topics. By applying brand design principles—consistent colors, typography, and iconography—it reinforced the seminar’s identity while creating a cohesive and intuitive experience for both speakers and participants.

Flow Chart Process: Why It Matters

  • Visualize the Narrative: Organized the seminar’s content from Start → Middle → End to create a clear, logical progression.

    • Start: Seminar Introduction / Welcome

    • Middle: Key Topics (Healing, Resilience, Self-Worth)

    • End: Call to Action / Reflection

  • Guide the Audience: Connected shapes or nodes (circles, rectangles, or rounded boxes) highlight the flow, making it easy for participants to follow.

  • Reinforce Design Consistency: Used brand-aligned colors, typography, and icons to maintain a cohesive, visually engaging presentation.

  • Enhance Understanding & Engagement: Structured layout helps the audience absorb complex mental health topics while supporting a calm, reflective experience.

Branding Integration

  • Color Palette: Use 2–3 primary brand colors consistently to differentiate sections or themes.

  • Typography: Headings and node labels follow the seminar’s chosen font hierarchy for readability.

  • Icons / Illustrations: Include small, subtle visuals to symbolize concepts like growth, support, or empowerment.

Branding integration was central to unifying the presentation design. The why stemmed from the need for visual consistency to build trust and recognition among participants. A limited but impactful color palette distinguished sections and emphasized themes, while typography hierarchy ensured readability and professionalism.

Subtle icons and illustrations symbolized empowerment and growth, grounding the presentation in cultural and emotional relevance. The results were a cohesive, on-brand presentation that elevated the seminar’s professionalism, strengthened audience connection, and amplified the group’s mission of supporting women of color through mental health awareness.

Design Solution

The design solution focused on creating a presentation that balanced clarity, empathy, and cultural resonance. The why behind the approach was rooted in the need to present sensitive topics in a way that felt supportive rather than overwhelming. By using thoughtful layouts, measured pacing, and custom graphics that reflected resilience and growth for women of color, the design transformed spoken messages into a visual experience participants could connect with.

The results were a polished, accessible presentation that supported speakers in delivering their stories with confidence, while reinforcing the seminar’s central theme of finding beauty in brokenness.

User-Centered Presentation Design

As the Presentation Designer, my focus was on creating slides that did more than deliver information—they had to guide, support, and inspire the audience. The why was rooted in designing a visual experience that reflected the seminar’s sensitive subject matter while empowering women of color to feel seen, valued, and understood.

I achieved this through careful layout design, culturally resonant visuals, and a calming color palette that balanced emotional weight with clarity. The result was a user-centered presentation that enhanced audience connection, helped participants process complex topics with ease, and gave speakers a confident, visually supportive tool to share their stories. This approach transformed the seminar into not just a talk, but an immersive and empowering experience.

  • Gave speakers confidence to share vulnerable stories, knowing the visuals reinforced their message.

  • Strengthened the seminar’s mission of uplifting women of color through mental health awareness, resilience, and creative empowerment.

By aligning design with purpose, the presentation became more than just slides—it became a tool for connection, healing, and empowerment.

The presentation design was crafted to support both speakers and participants, using clear layouts, inclusive visuals, and a calming color palette. This user-centered approach turned complex topics into an engaging, accessible experience, resulting in stronger audience connection and more confident storytelling.
